Professor Wang Minjuan obtained a BA in Chinese literature from Peking University, an MA in comparative literature from Penn State University, and a PhD in information science and learning technologies from the University of Missouri-Columbia, USA. 


Since 2019, Professor Wang has successfully served as Professor, Program Head and Advisor for the Learning Design and Technology programme at San Diego State University. Her research specialities are multidisciplinary, focusing on STEAM Education, talent development enabled by new and emerging technologies, XR (extended reality) and immersive learning, and the design and implementation of artificial intelligence including AIGC for teaching, learning, and training in interdisciplinary areas.


Professor Wang is an internationally recognised scholar who gives keynote speeches worldwide and publishes extensively in indexed and high-impact English-language journals such as Nature-Humanities & Social Sciences Communications (HSSC), Computers and Education, IEEE Transactions on Learning Technologies (IEEE TLT), British Journal of Education Technology and Education Technology and Society (ETS). In addition, her teaching and research were also featured in top-core journals in China (e.g. Educational Research and Open Education Research). Her edited book, Cross Reality (XR) and Immersive Learning in Education (2023) was published by Taylor & Francis in London. She has won several research awards and her scholarly work has made  a significant impact in the realms of computer science and learning technology.

 

In addition, she has actively pursued extramural funding opportunities and successfully secured substantial research and development grants from esteemed organisations, including the US Department of Education, Department of Labor, and the National Science Foundation of USA and China.


As an active member of the IEEE Education Society, she has contributed significantly to both the IEEE community and other scholarly circles. In addition to her role as the Editor-in-Chief for the IEEE Transactions on Learning Technologies (IEEE TLT) journal, she also co-chairs the Education Society’s Technical Committee on Immersive Learning (TC-ILE) and plays a key role in organising influential conferences. Her international reputation in the field is evident, reflected in her 2024 nomination as an iLRN scholar by Chris Dede from Harvard University. 
 

She has also served as a Distinguished Professor under the “Oriental Scholar” program nominated by the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, as well as an “Overseas Distinguished Expert” at Hainan University. These roles highlight her significant contributions to international academic exchange and educational collaboration, showcasing not only her outstanding achievements in her field but also her profound impact on cross-cultural education.
