Graduate School festivities celebrate the Year of the Dragon

The Graduate School celebrated the Year of the Dragon with quizzes and crafting on January 31, 2024.

Professor Gu Mingyue Michelle, the Dean of the Graduate School, launched the festivities by welcoming students, wishing them well for the new year and introducing GS Assistant Dean Dr Chris Tsang. In an entertaining trilingual (Mandarin, Cantonese and English) talk, Dr Tsang spoke about some of his Lunar New Year experiences. He encouraged students to use the holidays to interact more with the local community by exploring Hong Kong culture, especially Lunar New Year snacks.

The festive theme continued as Dr Yanmin Zhao and Dr John Patkin hosted the Lunar New Year quiz. Ten winners received GS gift packs, but we made sure “every player won a prize” during the crafting session. Thanks to instruction and hands-on guidance from GS colleagues, participants assembled their own dragons. Fai Chun, traditional Chinese New Year decorations symbolizing the welcoming of good fortune and the arrival of a prosperous new year, were also handed out.
