Visa Application & Insurance
Prospective international students must apply for a valid study visa through the GAO if they plan to join the programmes. (For students from the Mainland China, Taiwan and Macau, please refer to Chinese version for more details on visa application.)
It normally takes around six weeks to process a visa application. Once a visa is issued, it will be delivered to the applicant’s correspondence address or home institution by courier. The visa label should be affixed to the passport immediately.
There is a non-refundable and non-transferrable fee for student visa application. Payment should be settled by credit card once you are accepted.
Upon receiving the visa label, you have to stick it onto a blank page of your passport. When you arrive in Hong Kong, you need to show that label to an Immigration Officer to activate your student visa. You will then receive a landing slip showing “Student-Permitted to remain until DD-MM-YYYY”. It bears your name, travel document number, arrival date, conditions and limit of stay in Hong Kong.
Without the landing slip, your student visa is not activated and you will NOT be able to register with The Education University of Hong Kong.
Exchange students must arrange travel and health insurance covering the entire period of stay in Hong Kong. Insurance should cover (but not be limited to) travel, personal accident, medical expenses (accident and non-accident), hospitalisation and emergency evacuation/repatriation. There is no requirement on the amount of insurance coverage. This will depend on individual needs.
They will be required to show proof of coverage prior to arrival/registration.
