- Cultural and Creative Arts
I welcome conversations with prospective and enrolled Research Postgraduate students who are interested in music education, early childhood education, teacher education, and the social and cultural dimensions of music learning. I am particularly interested in supervising projects related to early childhood music pedagogy, cultural and social capital in music education, psychology of music education, music-to-language transfer, teacher professional development, creative arts and public value. I look forward to working with students who are curious, reflective, and committed to developing rigorous, meaningful, and socially relevant research.
- Published two scholarly books: Soundscapes of Education: Nurturing Creativity through Music and the Arts with Prof. Ho Wai-Chung, Springer Nature Singapore, 2025; and Cultural Capital and Parental Involvement: A Comparison of Students’ Music Participation between Beijing and Hong Kong, Springer, 2023.
- Published extensively in internationally recognised journals, including International Journal of Early Childhood, Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, Early Childhood Education Journal, Journal of Early Childhood Teacher Education, Education Sciences, Research Studies in Music Education, International Journal of Music Education, Music Education Research, etc.
- Co-authored four publications with RPg students in Q1-ranked international journals in 2026.
- Secured 13 external and internal research grants from 2023 to 2026.
- Received the Dean’s Research Award: Books (Finalist) 2022/23 and the FEHD Top 10% Teaching Award for three consecutive years: 2023/24, 2024/25, and 2025/26.
- Appointed as a core member of the Research Centre for Creative Arts and Public Value and as an editorial board member of Humanities and Social Sciences Communications.
