Master of Arts in Digital Humanities for Cultural Professionals [MADHCP] – Chinese Programme (New in 2026/27) and English Programme

The MA in Artificial Intelligence and Technology in Language Learning (MAATLL) examines the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) and other digital technologies on language learning, teaching, assessment, curriculum, learner development, and professional practices across English, Chinese, multilingual, and broader language education contexts. The programme prepares educators, language professionals, learning designers, assessment specialists, and related practitioners to use AI and digital technologies critically, creatively, and responsibly. By emphasising both theoretical understanding and practical application, the programme provides students with the knowledge and competencies needed to design technology-enhanced learning experiences, evaluate emerging educational technologies, and lead innovation in diverse language learning contexts. The programme aims to develop advanced research-informed understanding, independent professional judgment, and the ability to address complex language education problems responsibly.

Master of Arts in Chinese Studies (Language Education) offered by the Faculty of Humanities of EdUHK is specially designed for professionals like Chinese-language educators, editors, administrative executives and civil servants. The programme is recognised by the Standing Committee on Language Education and Research (SCOLAR) of Hong Kong as one of the programmes under “Recognised Language Major Degree Programmes”.

The Master of Arts in Digital Linguistics and Intercultural Communication (MADLIC) is designed to cultivate students’ intercultural and multicultural awareness while strengthening their ability to use digital tools and applied linguistic knowledge to communicate effectively with people from diverse cultural backgrounds. The programme combines theoretical coursework with hands-on training, integrating applied linguistics, digital technologies, and intercultural communication strategies. Students will explore how language is shaped and interpreted in digital environments, and how computational and communication technologies (e.g., digital writing, language resources, and online interaction platforms) can support translation, meaning-making, and collaboration across cultures in professional workplaces. Through guided practice in professional discourses and real-world communicative scenarios, students develop the skills to analyse linguistic needs, evaluate digital communication practices, and produce context-appropriate and nuanced intercultural communication outputs.

MAGHE is an interdisciplinary programme and brings together courses in global history, the history of education and comparative education. It is geared towards a deeper understanding of the present state of education and will provide students a grounded perspective on the future. The programme aims at cultivating graduates with an awareness of the historical processes that forged and continue to shape modern education systems in East Asia and worldwide, and thereby equips students with professionally relevant academic knowledge. It can also serve as a stepping stone for doctoral studies.
