To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Faculty of Humanities (FHM) of The Education University of Hong Kong, the Faculty of Humanities organised the Kick-off Ceremony on 16 September 2022 to serve as a prologue of anniversary celebrations. More than 100 guests, staff, students and alumni joined the ceremony. The ceremony also featured a live webcast to share the joy with the online audience.

Nine officiating guests were invited to hold the Kick-off Ceremony, including the President, Professor Stephen Cheung Yan-leung, the Vice President (Academic) and Provost, Professor John Lee Chi-kin, the Vice President (Administration), Ms Sarah Wong Man-yee, the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Professor John Erni, the Associate Dean (International Engagement) of the Faculty of Humanities, Dr Wang Lixun, the Associate Dean (Quality Assurance and Enhancement) of the Faculty of Humanities, Professor Pamela Leung Pui-wan, the Associate Dean (Research and Postgraduate Studies) of the Faculty of Humanities, Dr Michelle Gu Mingyue, the Associate Dean (Undergraduate Studies) of the Faculty of Humanities, Professor Jackie Lee Fung-king, and the Assistant Dean (Quality Assurance and Programmes) of the Faculty of Humanities, Dr Fung Chi-wang. Professor Stephen Cheung and Professor John Erni delivered opening addresses respectively.

Professor Stephen Cheung mentioned that he has witnessed an impressive growth in FHM, and was happy to see FHM being home to many distinguished scholars and academic staff, who have brought credit not just to the Faculty, but to the University as a whole.

Professor John Erni also pointed out the importance of Humanities under COVID-19. He believed that social isolation, community relations and racism were but a few of the issues that could not be addressed unless we learn to probe into histories, ideas, social values, and philosophies. He said, “I hope our work is not only about imparting knowledge, but also about building resilience in our students and our wider community."

Besides, the anniversary video was premiered at the ceremony to review the past accomplishments and look for the future development of the Faculty.

Apart from the Kick-off Ceremony, a variety of events will be organised by the Faculty and other units to celebrate the milestone. Please visit our anniversary web page and learn more: https://www.eduhk.hk/fhm/10A
