EdUHK ‘Shine Together’ Charity Virtual Run Award Ceremony
The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) held the ‘Shine Together’ Charity Virtual Run Award Ceremony today (26 November) on its Tai Po campus. Awards were presented to the winners of the Charity Virtual Run and thanks were given to sponsors and donors who have supported EdUHK projects tailored to students with special educational needs (SEN).
The event attracted over 400 participants including EdUHK staff, students, alumni and the members of the general public. Among them was the winner of the Individual Longest Accumulated Distance Award who had run nearly 300km in total.
In his address, EdUHK President Professor Stephen Cheung Yan-leung thanked all sponsors for helping make the event a success. He said, “To promote inclusiveness, the charity run specifically included a category for students with special needs. We hope the event could strengthen public understanding of the special attributes of SEN students and raise awareness of their needs.”
At the ceremony, EdUHK elite athlete student Mr Calvin Kwok Wing, the silver medalist in Male Individual Class B4 at the 3rd Asia Bowls Championship for the Disabled 2022, spoke of his experience during the campaign, “I am very glad to run with Mr Roy Chan Ching-yat (Roy Sir). I have not only learnt many exercise tips from him, but we have also shared a lot of laughter together.” Miss Cheung Yee-hang, a student of the EdUHK Jockey Club Youth Academy for Special Educational Needs (JCYASEN), one of the beneficiary SEN units, was proud to join the run with her mother and thanked the University for the support to SEN students.
As well as the virtual run, EdUHK will organise a charity play, a thematic conference, and a gala dinner next year under the ‘Shine Together’ theme. The goal is to raise funds for different initiatives in support of SEN students.
