EdUHK Holds Flag-Raising Ceremony Celebrating the 76th National Day

In celebration of the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, the Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) held a flag-raising ceremony this morning (1 October) on its Tai Po campus.

 

Attendees at the ceremony included Counsellor Wang Jian, Director-General of the Department of International Organizations and Conferences of the Commissioner’s Office of China’s Foreign Ministry in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, EdUHK Council Chairman Dr David Wong Yau-kar, Deputy Chairman Professor Terence Chan Ho-wah, President Professor John Lee Chi-Kin, senior management, faculty, staff, students and alumni, as well as Mr Ronald Chan, Founding President of The Greater Bay Area Education Integrative Development Think Tank, and other distinguished guests. 

 

The flag-raising ceremony was conducted by a team comprising students from EdUHK and EdUHK Jockey Club Primary School. As the national flag was raised, guests and students stood solemnly, singing the anthem in unison and gazing attentively at the flag.

 

Dr Wong remarked, “National Day is a one of nationwide celebration, which also symbolises the unity and striving for the development of the country. On this significant day, it is a source of pride to participate in the flag-raising ceremony with faculty and students, deepening our sense of belonging and recognition of the richness of Chinese culture.”

 

Professor Chan said, “National Day is significant in nurturing a sense of patriotism among students and staff. Our country’s prosperity and stability provide a solid foundation for Hong Kong's growth. The flag-raising ceremony is not just about patriotism, it also aims to inspire the younger generation to move forward with determination, contributing to society and the country.” 

 

In his speech, Professor Lee said, “Our country’s accomplishments are the result of unwavering effort. As a leading teacher education institution, EdUHK is dedicated to nurturing future educators and professionals who exemplify both competence and moral character. We remain committed to advancing national and patriotic education, equipping our students with a profound understanding of our heritage and empowering them to contribute meaningfully to Hong Kong, China and the nation."
