EdUHK Elite Athlete Student Chiu Hin-chun Winning Gold in the Lightweight Men’s Single Sculls at 2026 Asian Games
The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) is delighted to announce that elite athlete student Chiu Hin chun claimed the gold medal in the Lightweight Men’s Single Sculls final at the 20th Asian Games in Aichi–Nagoya today (24 September). Crossing the finish line first with a time of 6:50.32, Chiu secured EdUHK students’ first gold medal at this year’s Games and delivered Hong Kong, China’s fourth gold medal of the competition.
Currently pursuing a Master of Social Sciences in Sports Coaching and Management at EdUHK, Chiu is competing in his third Asian Games. This marks his first gold medal after winning silver at the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games and bronze at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games.
EdUHK President Professor John Lee Chi-Kin extended his warm congratulations, remarking, “Hin-chun has, over the years, achieved outstanding results through unwavering determination and tireless effort, fully demonstrating the never-give-up sporting spirit. Together with other EdUHK students and alumni who have excelled at these Asian Games, their achievements have not only brought honour to HKSAR but also inspired and instilled confidence across the University community.”
This year, more than 40 EdUHK student athletes and alumni participated in the Asian Games, with several delivering remarkable performances, including:
- Howard Hung Ho-wai, graduate of the Master of Social Sciences in Sports Coaching and Management programme: Bronze medals in Men’s Individual Kata and Men’s Team Kata (Karate)
- Leung Wing-yee, graduate of the Bachelor of Health Education (Honours) programme: Bronze medal in Women’s Road Race (Cycling)
- Leung Wing-wun, graduate of the Bachelor of Health Education (Honours) programme: Silver medal in Lightweight Women’s Double Sculls (Rowing)
- Leung Yu-hong, student of the Bachelor of Health Education (Honours) programme: Silver medal in Men’s 60kg Wushu Sanda
- Lam San-tung, graduate of the Bachelor of Health Education (Honours) programme, and Chan Tik-lun, student of the same programme: Bronze medal in Lightweight Men’s Double Sculls (Rowing)
