EdUHK Congratulates Elite Athlete Student Wang Liuyi and Wang Qianyi on Winning Gold in Women's Duet Artistic Swimming
The 15th National Games of the People's Republic of China (National Games) entered its seventh day today (November 15), and The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) proudly celebrates another remarkable achievement. Elite athlete students Wang Liuyi and Wang Qianyi won the gold medal in the Women's Duet (Technical Routine and Free Routine) of artistic swimming (formerly known as synchronised swimming) with a total score of 585.98. This marks the third gold medal won by EdUHK students at this year’s National Games.
EdUHK President Professor John Lee Chi-Kin expressed his heartfelt congratulations to the Wang sisters for their outstanding performance. “They demonstrated exceptional skills and seamless teamwork during the competition, bringing honor to both the Guangdong team they represent and EdUHK. What’s even more admirable is their dedication to academic excellence while striving for peak performance in sports. They are the epitome of EdUHK students’ perseverance and diverse talents. I hope their stories will inspire more students to bravely chase their dreams and shine in different fields,” he said.
This is the fourth time the Wang sisters have competed in the National Games. Previously, they won championship in the team event and secured third and second in the duet category. Today’s victory marks their first-ever gold medal in the duet category at the National Games. Their success builds on their triumph at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where they won gold in both the team and duet events. The duo are studying EdUHK’s Doctor of Education (Chinese) programme with EdUHK’s Tuition Scholarship for Elite Athletes.
Earlier in the Games, Lee Sze-wing, a student in the Bachelor of Health Education (Honours) programme, won gold in the Road Cycling (women's individual) race. Meanwhile, the Hong Kong Men’s Rugby Sevens Team, which includes Cado Lee Ka-to, a student in the Master of Social Sciences in Sports Coaching and Management programme at EdUHK, secured the gold medal in their final match.
