EdUHK Athletes Clinch 15 Medals at 20th Asian Games
Demonstrating Dual Career Excellence

The 20th Asian Games in Aichi–Nagoya have successfully concluded, with 47 student athletes and alumni from The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) representing Hong Kong, China and delivering outstanding performances. In addition to gold medals in Men’s Lightweight Single Sculls and Men’s Rugby Sevens, EdUHK athletes excelled in Women’s Rugby Sevens, cycling, karate, wushu, table tennis, gymnastics and other events. Together, they secured an impressive haul of two gold, three silver, and 10 bronze medals across 15 events. Student-athlete Cado Lee, a member of the gold medal-winning Men’s Rugby Sevens team, was also honoured as a flag bearer for Hong Kong, China at the Games’ closing ceremony.
 
EdUHK Council Chairman Dr David Wong Yau-kar expressed his gratitude to the participating athletes and congratulated the medalists. “Your perseverance, indomitable spirit, and pursuit of excellence are a source of pride for the University and the wider community. You have set an inspiring example for your peers. EdUHK will continue to stand firmly behind you, offering dual track development opportunities and support to help you shine on every stage,” he said. 

 

EdUHK President Professor John Lee Chi-Kin also extended his heartfelt congratulations to the participating athletes and medalists. “The achievements of our student athletes exemplify the fighting spirit and teamwork of Hong Kong athletes. Their success not only brings honour to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, but also inspires the EdUHK community, underscoring the University’s commitment to nurturing talents through both academic and athletic excellence. As this year marks the 10th anniversary of EdUHK’s retitling, their victories carry added significance,” he said.

 

Outstanding performances by EdUHK athletes at the Games included: 

Gold Medals:

  • Chiu Hin-chun, student of the Master of Social Sciences in Sports Coaching and Management: Lightweight Men’s Single Sculls (Rowing);
  • Cado Lee, student of the Master of Social Sciences in Sports Coaching and Management: Men’s Rugby Sevens.

Silver Medals:

  • Leung Wing-wun, graduate of the Bachelor of Health Education (Honours): Lightweight Women’s Double Sculls (Rowing);
  • Leung Yu-hong, student of the Bachelor of Health Education (Honours): Men’s 60kg Wushu Sanda;
  • Leung Wing-yee, graduate of the Bachelor of Health Education (Honours) and student Lee Sze-wing of the same programme: Women’s Madison (Track Cycling).

Bronze Medals:

  • Leung Wing-yee, graduate of the Bachelor of Health Education (Honours): Women’s Road Race (Cycling);
  • Howard Hung Ho-wai, graduate of the Master of Social Sciences in Sports Coaching and Management: Men’s Individual Kata (Karate);
  • Howard Hung Ho-wai, graduate of the Master of Social Sciences in Sports Coaching and Management: Men’s Team Kata (Karate);
  • Henry Leung Chi-hin, graduate of the Bachelor of Health Education (Honours): Men’s Team (Squash);
  • Lam San-tung, graduate of the Bachelor of Health Education (Honours), and Chan Tik-lun, student of the same programme: Lightweight Men’s Double Sculls (Rowing);
  • Ng Ka-ki, student of the Bachelor of Health Education (Honours): Men’s Vault (Gymnastics);
  • Doo Hoi-kem, graduate of the Bachelor of Health Education (Honours): Women’s Doubles (Table Tennis);
  • Mok Tsz-chun, student of the Bachelor of Health Education (Honours): Men’s Team Sprint (Cycling);
  • Lee Sze-wing, student of the Bachelor of Health Education (Honours): Women’s Omnium (Track Cycling);
  • Stephanie Chan Chor-ki, student of the Bachelor of Health Education (Honours): Women’s Rugby.

  • Cycling: Vincent Lau Wan-yau, Ng Pak-hang, Mow Ching-yin, Kwan Tsz-kwan, Wu Chun-yin, Tso Kai-kwong, Lai Chun-kin;
  • Handball: Sze Yan-yee, Hung Cheuk-kiu, Cheung Mei-ngo;
  • Judo: Yeung Nok-lam;
  • Karate: Cheng Hui-pan;

As Hong Kong’s first UGC funded institution to sign a collaborative agreement with the Hong Kong Sports Institute, EdUHK remains committed to being an “Elite Athlete Friendly University.” Through flexible admission mechanisms, the University has admitted more than 240 elite athletes since 2010, supporting their dual career development in both academics and sports.
