EdUHK Organises Sharing Session to Foster Home-School Collaboration

The Entrepreneurship and Innovation Education Unit of Library and the Centre for Religious and Spirituality Education at The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) co-organised a sharing session, entitled “Home-School Collaboration: Enrichment of Parent-Child Relationship”, with the Education Bureau (EDB) and the Committee on Home-School Co-operation (CHSC) on 21 August 2021.

With support from 17 district-based Federations of Parent-Teacher Associations*, the event attracted more than 170 principals, teachers, parents, students and other educational practitioners from kindergartens, primary and secondary schools to participate.

Professor John Lee Chi-kin, Vice President (Academic) and Provost of EdUHK, and Mr Eugene Fong Yick-jin, Chairman of CHSC, delivered welcome speeches for the event. Professor Lee highlighted the sharing session’s theme in his welcome speech, “Through this event, we hope to bring some inspirations to you and let educational practitioners understand how to help children develop and equip them to cope with societal changes via positive parenting and strengthening of home-school co-operation.”

EdUHK scholars Professor Kevin Chung Kien-hoa, Director of Centre for Child and Family Science; Dr Ian Lam Chun-bun, Associate Professor at the Department of Early Childhood Education; and Dr Maxwell Ho Chun-sing, Lecturer at the Department of Education Policy and Leadership; shared and exchanged their views with participants on two main topics: “Parents and children together: building a positive family with care, encouragement and acceptance” and “ Home-school co-operation: equipping children for a changing society”. Guest panelists Ms Sylvia Chan May-kuen, Principal of Ying Wa Primary School; and Dr Poon Po-chiu, Principal of Ju Ching Chu Secondary School (Yuen Long); also shared their experiences from the perspectives of schools and teachers.

In addition to exploring how to prepare children for a changing society, participants also learned the keys to strengthening parent-child relationship and how to teach children entrepreneurship at an early age.
