CFAU Scholars Deliver General Education Lecture on Belt and Road Initiative and Sino-US Relations to EdUHK Students
The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) held a special general education lecture on 9 March, featuring Professor Ren Yuanzhe from the Department of Diplomacy and Foreign Affairs Management at China Foreign Affairs University (CFAU), and Professor Fan Chao, Deputy Director (Teaching), Department of Diplomacy and Foreign Affairs Management at CFAU, as distinguished speakers. They addressed over 900 first-year students on key topics including the Belt and Road Initiative and Sino-US relations, enhancing students' understanding of national foreign policy and the international landscape.
Ms Lu Ke, Deputy Director-General of the Department of International Organisations and Conferences of the Commissioner's Office of China's Foreign Ministry in the HKSAR, together with her colleague, attended the seminar. Ms Helen Gai Huixia, Associate Vice President (Mainland Engagement and Development) of EdUHK, and Dr David Kang Jong Hyuk, Director of General Education, were also present.
As an integral part of EdUHK's foundational General Education course, the session was well-received by students. Professor Ren delivered a lecture titled "Understanding the Belt and Road Initiative", offering an in-depth analysis of its historical background, contemporary significance, and profound implications. Tracing its development from historical contexts to modern practices, he provided students with clear perspectives for understanding this major national strategy. Professor Fan focused on the evolution of Sino-U.S. relations, using vivid case studies to explore the complex factors behind international relations transformations. His presentation broadened students’ global outlook and inspired them to contemplate global issues from multiple perspectives.
The success of this seminar also marks further deepening of the collaborative relationship between the two Universities. In March 2025, EdUHK and CFAU formally signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to jointly establish the Institute for International Relations of EdUHK. The collaboration aims to strengthen their partnership in the areas of international relations, Chinese foreign affairs education and interactive practice. Under the MoU framework, CFAU will provide policy guidance, teaching resources, and related support for EdUHK to conduct related education in Hong Kong.
With the support of CFAU, the Institute of International Relations established by EdUHK will serve as a key academic and research hub in the fields of international relations and Chinese foreign affairs. It will conduct academic activities such as research on the Belt and Road Initiative and explore the development of master’s and other research programmes. Additionally, the two universities will engage in deep collaboration in areas such as curriculum development, compilation of instructional materials, academic research, international forums and student-teacher exchange activities, jointly promoting academic development and talent cultivation in related fields.
