MBTI Workshop Unlocks Personality Codes and Empowers Career Planning
Understanding one’s personality traits and using them for a successful career was the focus of an MBTI workshop on April 24th, 2025. MBTI, the Myers–Briggs Type Indicator, was introduced by guest speaker Mr Peter Lam.
Games, one-on-one discussions, and group work were used to deepen participants’ understanding of the relationship between personality types and career planning. The activities helped them recognise their personality inclinations and potential strengths in the workplace.
The game “Time Machine,” which asked participants whether they wanted a stable future or one with surprises, was used as an icebreaker. Participants were split into two groups, symbolising stability and surprises, and were interviewed by Mr Lam subsequently to understand their choices.
In the “Perfect Replication”, game groups of four collaboratively recreated a provided drawing within one minute, with each person contributing for 15 seconds. After completion, Mr Lam scored the drawings, and the highest-scoring team won. Through this activity, Mr Lam introduced the concepts of dominant and non-dominant hands, likening personality tendencies to the natural preference for one hand over the other.
The workshop also included a presentation about the theorists behind the MBTI personality classification theory and explained the eight-letter personality preferences. For instance, “E” stands for Extroversion and “I” for Introversion, illustrating how these primary personality types release and gain energy. Mr Lam presented four work scenarios and facilitated group discussions about which environment participants found most comfortable or preferable. Additionally, he shared a “Cognitive Functions” framework, helping participants identify potential career paths suited to their personality types.
The workshop guided participants in self-exploration in an engaging and lively manner, providing valuable insights for future career planning. Participants gained knowledge and found inspiration through interaction, laying a clearer foundation for personal growth and professional development.
