Annual Gathering to Expand the Network of Chinese Teaching and Research with Local Schools

To strengthen curriculum development and expand the network of teaching and research with local primary and secondary schools, the Department of Chinese Language Studies (CHL) has launched the “Learning and Teaching Mentorship Scheme” in 2020/21. In the project’s first phase, 37 principals, head teachers, and senior language education experts from local and international schools have been invited to serve as advisors. By 2021/22, the number of advisors was expanded to 48, and an annual gathering of advisors was held on 11 February 2022.
The gathering began with opening remarks by Professor John Erni, Dean of FHM and Dr Liang Yuan, Acting Head of CHL, followed by presentations by new consultants on the teaching and learning features of Chinese language teaching in their respective schools. Dr Poon Po Chiu, Principal of Ju Ching Chu Secondary School (Yuen Long), gave a talk on “Model essays in 30 years”, and Ms Xu Li, Supervisor of Han Academy delivered a talk on “Core and Pathways of Chinese Language Education”, which stimulated discussions among the consultants and university members. After the guest speakers’ talks, Dr Ho Chi Hang, Associate Head of CHL, introduced the future development and activities of the scheme.
