The Department of Chinese Language Studies (CHL) held the 2021-22 Retreat on 23 June 2022, with the theme of “New Era for CHL”.
Dr Liang Yuan, Acting Head of the Department, reported the Department’s recent achievements in teaching, research and knowledge transfer, as well as the process of internationalisation and the development in the Greater Bay Area, and further proposed the future vision of the Department in response to the new opportunities and challenges brought about by the epidemic and social development.
Professor John Erni, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, attended the retreat. He emphasised that post-epidemic reconstruction requires the revitalization of humanism, that we must rethink the positioning of education, and that humanities and science should work together to carry out interdisciplinary research to achieve reformation and innovation.
This is the first retreat for the Department of Chinese Language Studies in the past three years. Colleagues gathered to share their research developments in the academic fields of Chinese linguistics, teaching Chinese as an international language and Chinese language education and expressed their views freely in a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere. The successful holding of this retreat marks a new milestone for the Department of Chinese Language Studies.
