Students of the Faculty of Humanities Awarded at the HKBU Century Club Citywide Poetry Competition

Students of the Faculty of Humanities of The Education University of Hong Kong are recently awarded at the Hong Kong’s first-ever citywide English-language poetry competition. The competition was organised by the Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) Century Club, Department of English Language and Literature, Department of Humanities and Creative Writing of HKBU, and the International Writers’ Workshop of HKBU in association with the Hong Kong Poetry Festival Foundation. T.S. Eliot Prize-winning poet Sarah Howe was invited as the inaugural judge of the competition. 

 

The organiser has called for submissions from all current full-time undergraduate students enrolled in one of the eight UGC-funded universities. Out of 127 submissions collected, four students of the Faculty of Humanities became the finalists. The first, second, and third-place winners were revealed at the HKBU Century Club Citywide Poetry Reading on 28 April 2019. Year 4 students Sky CLARKE and NG Wing Yee, Janice of the Bachelor of Education (Honours) (English Language) Programme won the second and third prizes of the competition with their works “Mummy Dearest” and “Fish” respectively. 

 

There are four out of the six finalists of the competition from the Faculty of Humanities, and all of them are the students of the Creative Writing course conducted by Mr Nicholas Wong, Lecturer of the Department of Literature and Cultural Studies.

Second Prize:

Third Prize:

NG Wing Yee, Janice, Bachelor of Education (Honours) (English Language) Programme, Year 4
