Prof Angel Lin of the Faculty of Humanities Receives the AAAL 2027 Distinguished Scholarship and Service Award

Prof Lin Mei Yi Angel, Chair Professor in the Department of English Language Education, the Faculty of Humanities (FHM) of The Education University of Hong Kong, has been named the recipient of the American Association for Applied Linguistics (AAAL) 2027 Distinguished Scholarship and Service Award. Prof Lin is the first Chinese scholar and also the first Asia-based scholar to receive this prestigious award.

She has been deeply committed to advancing multilingual education, equity and justice in language education, and inclusive education. Her scholarship has consistently challenged monolingual biases in language education and advanced pedagogies that honour students' full linguistic repertoires. Her pioneering work on the Multimodalities-Entextualisation Cycle and Ecological Languaging Competencies has reshaped how researchers and practitioners understand language teaching, learning, and assessment in plurilingual contexts.

With over 200 publications spanning classroom analysis, critical literacies, and human-AI relationality, Prof Lin's research is grounded in the lived experiences of teachers and learners. As the first Asia-based scholar elected to the AAAL Executive Committee (2006–2009), she has been steadfast in her commitment to diversifying the field's intellectual geography and advocating for emerging scholars around the world.

This distinguished honour recognises Prof Lin's outstanding scholarly achievements, professional service, and international impact in the field of applied linguistics, while also affirming the research strength and global reputation of FHM in linguistics.
