UNESCO Beijing Delegation Visits EdUHK to Explore Potential Collaboration

Director of the UNESCO Multisectoral Regional Office for East Asia (UNESCO Beijing) Professor Shahbaz Khan and its Consultant for Social and Human Sciences Dr Zhao Di visited The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) on 10 October 2023. They were greeted by EdUHK President, and UNESCO Chair in Regional Education Development and Lifelong Learning, Professor John Lee Chi-Kin, and the University’s Emeritus Professor and Advisor (Academic Development) Professor Kerry Kennedy. Apart from exploring potential collaborations, major strategic initiatives and developments of the UNESCO Beijing were also discussed at the meeting.

Professor Khan said that EdUHK represented a window between East and West, that can attract multi-talented people to Hong Kong. In order to keep pace with the growing demand for higher education and fast-changing socio-economic development, he suggested that EdUHK support certain talent programmes – highlighting Hong Kong’s key elements – to attract both international and mainland talent.

President Professor Lee was reappointed as UNESCO Chair in Regional Education Development and Lifelong Learning in February 2023.  As a renowned education scholar of high international standing, he aims to strengthen support for the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and the development of 21st century skills and positive values, as well as to continue to make efforts in realising UNESCO’s priorities in areas such as life and values education, environmental education and intercultural education.
