Re-appointment of Professor John Lee Chi-Kin as EdUHK President
The Council of The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) approved today (20 October) the re-appointment of Professor John Lee Chi-Kin as its President for another five-year term, effective 1 September 2028.
The decision was made after thorough discussions of the recommendation made by an ad hoc committee set up by the Council in June, with reference made to comments and views consolidated during an extensive consultation exercise within the University community.
In announcing Professor Lee’s re-appointment, EdUHK’s Council Chairman Dr David Wong Yau-kar commended his outstanding leadership, strategic vision and dedication, noting the significant progress achieved during the first three years of his presidency. He also highlighted Professor Lee’s distinguished academic standing and contributions to enhancing the University’s reputation and impact.
“Under his leadership, EdUHK has strengthened its academic and research profile, expanded international collaboration and external engagement, and advanced innovation, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital education while maintaining education as its core mission. His forward-looking approach has consolidated the University’s strengths in teacher education while fostering multidisciplinary development and new opportunities for staff and students. The consultation exercise reflected broad recognition of his achievements and strong support for his continued leadership. The Council is confident that he will build on these achievements, work closely with the University community and lead EdUHK into its next stage of sustainable development,” said Dr Wong.
In response, Professor Lee said, “It is my greatest pleasure and honour to be the EdUHK President for another five years. Thanks to the trust and recognition by the HKSAR Government and the Council, especially the Re-appointment Committee led by the Council Chairman with exemplary leadership, and Council Officers and members’ kind support for my work as President. I would thank sincerely the concerted efforts of the University community, especially the senior management team and different stakeholders. Looking ahead, I believe EdUHK will continue to play a distinctive role in leading innovation for education futures, nurturing teachers and professionals with proper values and ethics, as well as promoting the strategic development of education and other multidisciplinary areas in Hong Kong as an international education hub, and contributing to the nation as the Leading Country in Education, the Asian region and beyond,” Professor Lee added.
