EdUHK UNESCO Chair Programme and SHNU UNESCO TEC Sign MOU to Establish a Joint Centre and Advance Teacher Education
The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) today announced that its UNESCO Chair in Regional Education Development and Lifelong Learning has recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the UNESCO Teacher Education Centre (UNESCO TEC) at Shanghai Normal University (SHNU). The agreement marks the beginning of closer collaboration in education between the two institutions. The partnership echoes the United Nations’ vision of “ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all,” and seeks to foster educational exchange and cooperation, particularly in developing countries, to advance both basic education and teacher education worldwide.
The signing ceremony took place during the “EdUHK International Conference on Learning and Teaching 2026”. Professor John Lee Chi-Kin, President of EdUHK and UNESCO Chair in Regional Education Development and Lifelong Learning, together with Professor Zhang Minxuan, Director of SHNU’s UNESCO Teacher Education Centre, officiated at the ceremony. Under the MoU, the two institutions will jointly establish the “UNESCO TEC-EdUHK UNESCO Chair Programme Joint Centre.” Through initiatives such as Global Forum for Future Teachers, the Centre will provide a platform for academic visits, professional training, exchanges, collaboration, and research. It will also facilitate mutual visits and in-service training opportunities for teachers, researchers, and students in Shanghai and Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, contributing expertise to the advancement of basic education and teacher development regionally and globally.
Professor Lee remarked, “This collaboration represents a significant milestone in educational cooperation between Shanghai and Hong Kong. By leveraging our respective strengths, we aim to contribute to the sustainable development of high-quality basic education and teacher development, not only in the region but also globally.”
Looking ahead, EdUHK and SHNU will deepen collaboration in the fields of teacher education, educational research, and talent development, joining forces to promote high-quality education.
