EdUHK Debuts at 195th Place in THE World University Rankings Placing it in the Top 10% Globally
The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) is proud to announce its debut in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings, released today (9 October) in its 2026 edition. EdUHK’s first-ever THE ranking is 195th in the world, placing the University in the top 10% globally among 2,191 institutions worldwide, and sixth in Hong Kong.
This significant milestone underscores EdUHK’s rising prominence as a leader in education and multidisciplinary research, driven by its steadfast commitment to academic excellence, innovative teaching, and impactful global contributions.
The THE World University Rankings evaluate institutions across five core pillars, which provide a comprehensive assessment of universities’ strengths in advancing education, research, and global engagement. These are: teaching (the learning environment), research environment (volume, income, and reputation), research quality (citation impact, research strength, research excellence, and research influence), international outlook (staff, students, and research), and industry (income and patents).
EdUHK excelled in the criterion of research quality, particularly in education, psychology, arts and humanities, social sciences, and other related disciplines. This highlights the University’s ability to produce influential and high-impact research that shapes global academic discourse and addresses critical societal challenges.
EdUHK President Professor John Lee Chi-Kin expressed his pleasure at the achievement. “Our debut at 195th in the THE World University Rankings reflects the dedication of our faculty and students in advancing education and research with global impact. The University will continue to pursue excellence by building on its strong tradition in teacher education, embracing forward-looking innovation, interdisciplinary research, and international collaboration. The University is committed to nurturing future talent with positive values and vision, and to make a greater contribution in alignment with the national goal of building a strong education power, fostering Hong Kong, China as an international hub for higher education,” he said.
This recognition builds on EdUHK’s recent successes in other global rankings. In the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025, announced in March, EdUHK ranked 12th globally in education, fourth in Asia, and second in Hong Kong. Additionally, in the latest U.S. News & World Report 2025-2026 Best Global Universities rankings announced in June, EdUHK placed third globally in education and educational research, with arts and humanities ranked 90th worldwide. These achievements reinforce EdUHK’s dedication to enhancing teaching quality, strengthening academic reputation, fostering educational innovation, and advancing internationalisation.
