EdUHK and Tencent Cloud Establish Strategic Partnership
Advancing AI-Driven Educational Innovation and Research Translation

The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) and Tencent Cloud signed a strategic partnership agreement in Shenzhen on 15 October to establish a long-term collaboration framework for advancing artificial intelligence (AI), educational technology, research innovation and knowledge transfer. The signing ceremony was attended by representatives from senior management, academia and industry.

The partnership combines EdUHK’s strengths in educational research, talent development and interdisciplinary innovation with Tencent Cloud’s expertise in artificial intelligence, cloud computing and digital ecosystems. Under the agreement, the two parties will collaborate in areas including AI-enhanced teaching and learning, teacher education and professional development, high-performance computing support for research and research translation. Projects will be implemented through pilot testing, outcome validation, and scaling of successful initiatives.

In recent years, EdUHK has strengthened its research and teaching capabilities in artificial intelligence, data science, learning sciences, psychology and educational technology, while expanding efforts in intellectual property management, technology licensing, entrepreneurship development and industry collaboration. Through this partnership, both parties aim to further accelerate educational innovation, research translation and industry-academia collaboration across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Professor John Lee Chi-Kin, President of EdUHK, noted that the partnership marks an important milestone in advancing educational innovation through cross-sector collaboration. As artificial intelligence continues to reshape education, he emphasised the need for closer cooperation between the education and technology sectors to develop innovative and responsible applications. He added that combining EdUHK’s strengths in educational research and talent development with Tencent Cloud’s technological expertise would help nurture patriotic, future-ready talent and foster deeper exchanges between Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area.

Professor Chetwyn Chan Che-hin, Vice President (Research and Development) of EdUHK, said that the University had been actively promoting research innovation, knowledge transfer and research translation, while strengthening its innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem. He noted that the partnership would create additional opportunities for researchers to collaborate with industry, accelerate the application of research outcomes in areas such as artificial intelligence, digital education and educational data science, and further support intellectual property commercialisation, startup development and industry-academia collaboration.

Ms Shi Mei, Vice President of Tencent Cloud, Head of Tencent Education, highlighted Tencent Education’s sustained efforts in three key areas—AI Education, AI for Education, and AI for Science—driving the intelligent transformation of campus services, talent development, and research innovation. She reaffirmed Tencent Cloud’s commitment to working closely with EdUHK, leveraging its computing infrastructure and AI technologies to explore practical applications in AI‑enhanced teaching and learning, teacher professional development, and talent cultivation. She added that Tencent Cloud would draw on its technological capabilities, industry resources, and ecosystem network to facilitate the translation and adoption of innovative educational solutions.

The partnership also highlights the strategic role of the EdUHK Shenzhen Research Institute in facilitating collaboration between researchers and industry partners, supporting project incubation and resource matching, and strengthening innovation networks across the Greater Bay Area.

Initial discussions have already covered collaborative projects in AI-assisted learning, student wellbeing technologies, teacher professional development, immersive learning environments, educational data science and research translation.

EdUHK will continue to strengthen educational innovation, knowledge transfer and impactful research translation through strategic partnerships and cross-sector collaboration, contributing to the advancement of education in Hong Kong, the Greater Bay Area and beyond.
