EdUHK Achieves Record 7th Worldwide Ranking in Education in QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026
The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) is pleased to announce today (25 March) its latest results in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026, where it has been ranked 7th worldwide in Education and 2nd in Asia. This best-ever performance marks a historic milestone for the University, reflecting sustained progress over three consecutive years and affirming its international standing in the field of education, with strong recognition from the global academic community.
Beyond its leading position in Education, EdUHK has achieved global recognition in three additional disciplines, with Linguistics ranked among the world’s top 200, Psychology among the world’s top 250, and Sociology among the world’s top 300. For the first time, the University has also been ranked in two broad subject areas: Arts & Humanities and Social Sciences & Management. These results underscore EdUHK’s growing academic strengths across multiple fields, highlighting its expanding impact beyond its core focus on education.
EdUHK President Professor John Lee Chi-Kin took pride in the University's achievements, “This is a record-breaking moment for EdUHK. The new QS education discipline ranking reflects EdUHK's international stature in teacher education, pedagogical research, and educational innovation. This success is thanks to the dedication and collective efforts of our faculty, staff, and students. It also affirms our ‘Education Futures’ vision and our commitment to fostering technology-enhanced and lifelong learning. This new milestone empowers us to nurture talent with virtues and to make meaningful contributions to society at local, national, and international levels through world-class education,” he said.
The 2026 QS World University Rankings by Subject evaluated 6,277 institutions across 166 locations worldwide, covering 55 subjects. Five key metrics are used to compile the QS subject rankings, including Academic Reputation, Employer Reputation, Citations per Paper, H-index (an index that attempts to measure both the productivity and impact of the published work of a scientist or scholar), and International Research Network (IRN). EdUHK's strong performance, particularly in research impact and academic reputation, has driven this year's outstanding results.
These subject achievements complement EdUHK's strong overall rankings. In the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2026, EdUHK debuted at 195th globally. This places it in the top 10% of over 2,000 institutions and 6th in Hong Kong. In the QS World University Rankings 2026, the University debuted at 530th worldwide. Together, these results highlight EdUHK's rapid rise and growing prominence as a dynamic, research-intensive university with multidisciplinary strength.
