EdUHK 10th Anniversary Concert Concludes with Resounding Success GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ Title Achieved in Musical Tribute to Teachers
The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) hosted the “A Decade of Radiance, A Song of Gratitude: The 10th Anniversary of EdUHK’s Retitling Concert” at Pacific Place today (6 September), celebrating the 10th anniversary of the University’s retitling and honouring the spirit of Teachers’ Day in September. The event united the community through music – drawing teachers, students, alumni, and community partners – for a series of heartfelt performances.
A major highlight of the celebration was EdUHK’s successful attainment of a GUINNESS WORLD RECORD™ title. On 2 September, the University launched an attempt for the “Most videos of people singing the same song uploaded to Instagram in one hour.” During the designated period, participants uploaded videos of themselves performing the teacher appreciation anthem, In Praise of Teachers, to Instagram – offering an innovative expression of gratitude to educators. Supported enthusiastically by teachers, students, alumni, school partners, and the broader community, the initiative generated over 500 verified submissions to secure a new record title. An official adjudicator from Guinness World Records presented the certificate at the concert, marking a memorable milestone for the University’s anniversary.
The event was officiated by EdUHK Deputy Chairman Professor Terence Chan Ho-wah, Treasurer Ms Imma Ling Kit-sum, and President Professor John Lee Chi-Kin. They were joined by representatives from the education sector, arts and culture community, alumni associations, as well as community organisations, to celebrate Teachers’ Day.
In his address, Professor John Lee Chi‑Kin remarked, “Since its retitling ten years ago, EdUHK has expanded beyond its traditional scope in teacher education to embrace diverse, cross-disciplinary development. We have advanced in curriculum design, research and innovation, knowledge transfer, national security education, patriotic education, and internationalisation. Yet, we never forget our core mission, a commitment to education, and the dedication to nurturing future talents who demonstrate respect for teachers, uphold teachers’ professional conduct, and possess proper values. Centred on the theme ‘A Decade of Radiance, A Song of Gratitude,’ this event not only reflects the University’s growth over the past decade, but also brings the EdUHK community together to convey our heartfelt thanks and respect to every educator through the power of music.”
The concert featured a vibrant and eclectic programme, beginning with the EdUHK Chorus performing In Praise of Teachers. Internationally acclaimed harmonica virtuoso and distinguished alumnus Mr Gordon Lee Chun-lok performed alongside his students, exemplifying the enduring impact of music education across generations. The line‑up continued with performances from local schools and organisations, including the Choir from The New Voice Club of Hong Kong, The Church of Christ in China Tuen Mun Church Educational Organization (HFTKG, TMCKG), The Educators’ Singers, EdUHK PhD student Ms Louise Lin Yongqi, Society of Boys’ Centres Shing Tak Centre School, and EdUHK Jockey Club Youth Academy for Special Educational Needs. From kindergarten pupils to veteran educators, performers presented choral, instrumental, and cross‑disciplinary works that reflected EdUHK’s vision of diversity and inclusivity in education. Beyond the stage, “A Decade of Radiance, A Song of Gratitude: The 10th Anniversary of EdUHK’s Retitling Concert” reinforced a broader cultural appreciation for the teaching profession.
Also taking place this September to celebrate Teachers’ Day, EdUHK has launched the “Passing the Torch, Building Education Future: Student Tribute to Teachers”, encouraging students to express their gratitude to teachers through chanting and designing teacher-appreciation slogans. The response has been overwhelming; just a few days into the new school year, the initiative has already attracted nearly 24,000 students and teachers from kindergartens, primary, secondary, and special schools. With enrolment still open, it is anticipated that even more students will join to set a new record for participation. Through these earnest slogans, students will express their heartfelt gratitude to teachers across Hong Kong, uplifting dedicated educators and fostering a culture of respect for the teaching profession across every campus.
Looking ahead, EdUHK will continue to nurture the next generation of talent through quality teaching, pioneering research, and diverse practice, contributing to Hong Kong, our nation, and the global community.
