Building Excellence: EdUHK Debuts at 37th in THE Asia University Rankings 2026

The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) is proud to make its debut in the Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings 2026 announced today (23 April), securing an impressive 37th position among leading universities in the region. This milestone marks EdUHK’s first-ever appearance in the THE Asia rankings, underscoring the University’s growing research strengths and rising international profile.

EdUHK excelled particularly in two key areas. In Research Quality, the University recorded strong performance across metrics such as citation impact, research strength, excellence and influence. In International Outlook, EdUHK also performed well in categories including international staff, student diversity, and globally collaborative research.

Commenting on the achievement, EdUHK President Professor John Lee Chi-Kin said: “It is an important milestone for EdUHK to be featured for the first time in the THE Asia University Rankings. The recognition affirms our commitment to advancing impactful research and fostering a dynamic international learning community. It is a testament to the dedication and collective efforts of our faculty and staff. Going forward, we will continue to enhance our research capacity as well as learning and teaching quality, strengthen collaborations across local, regional, and global networks, and translate academic knowledge into meaningful benefits for learners and society.”

The THE Asia University Rankings 2026 evaluates 929 universities from 36 countries/territories. Using THE’s calibrated methodology, the rankings assess institutions across 18 performance indicators, grouped into five areas: Teaching (the learning environment), Research Environment (volume, income and reputation), Research Quality (citation impact, research strength, research excellence and research influence), International Outlook (staff, students and research), and Industry (income and patents). All indicators are designed to enable comprehensive and balanced comparisons.

EdUHK’s debut performance in THE Asia University Rankings follows its strong momentum in global university assessments. The University was recently ranked 7th worldwide in Education and 2nd in Asia in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026, reaffirming its academic excellence and influence in education and beyond.

With this new recognition, EdUHK continues to pursue excellence in teaching, research, and international engagement. The University remains committed to nurturing future-ready educators and professionals, while contributing to the advancement of knowledge and sustainable development across the region and the world, in alignment with the national policy direction outlined in the 15th Five-Year Plan and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government’s goal of developing Hong Kong as an “International Education Hub”.
