National Flag Raising Ceremony

In celebration of the 74th Anniversary of the establishment of the People’s Republic of China, The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) held this morning (1 October) a National Flag Raising Ceremony on its Tai Po campus.

 

Attending the ceremony were EdUHK Council Chairman Dr David Wong Yau-kar, Deputy Chairman Dr Terence Chan Ho-wah, Treasurer Ms Imma Ling Kit-sum, Council members, President Professor John Lee Chi-Kin, senior management members, staff and students. Dr Chen Zhilu, Deputy Division Director of The Department of Educational, Scientific and Technological Affairs of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR, among others, was also present. A team formed by EdUHK students raised the national, regional and university flags during the ceremony.

 

Dr Wong said, “The National Day commemorates the establishment of our country ­– a nationwide occasion filled with joy and celebration. It is particularly meaningful to witness this solemn ceremony on campus, together with members of the University community.”

 

Professor Lee said, “Conducting a flag-raising ceremony can help foster a sense of national identity among students. In line with our core mission, EdUHK will continue with its commitment to teacher education, nurturing teachers with virtues, patriotism and professionalism for Hong Kong and the country."

 

EdUHK conducts flag raising ceremonies each Monday and on important dates, including New Year’s Day, HKSAR Establishment Day, the National Day and the school commencement day.
