20th Primary STEM Project Exhibition: “Green and Simple Urban Living”

You or your representatives are cordially invited to cover the 20th Primary STEM Project Exhibition (PSPE) to be held this Friday at the Hong Kong Central Library Exhibition Gallery. Co-organised by the Centre for Education in Environmental Sustainability (CEES) and the Department of Science and Environmental Studies (SES) at The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK), alongside other parties, the Exhibition is a large-scale annual event featuring primary school science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) projects.

Since 1998, the PSPE has spared no effort in nurturing talents in science exploration. This year the Exhibition will display approximately 170 projects from local schools and schools from other cities in the Pearl Delta Region including Zhongshan, Guangdong, Shenzhen and Macau. Under the main theme of “Green and Simple Urban Living”, the teams will showcase their innovative projects in relation to resource saving and waste reduction in green living, such as how worms can reduce plastic waste, the theory and application of aquaponics, how the air can power vehicles and home farming in Hong Kong.

Starting with the small details of four basic necessities – clothing, food, housing and transport – and striving to fundamentally simplify our lifestyle and change the habits of excessive consumption and waste, the ultimate goal of “Green and Simple Urban Living” can be achieved. To help students understand more about environmental sustainability in everyday life, this year the Exhibition is encouraging them to explore the conventional way of green living. During the exhibition, the students will share their project outcomes, the scientific principles and concepts behind them, and the tests and experiments they used in their explorations.

To mark the Exhibition’s 20th Anniversary, a celebratory event will also be held at EdUHK on 26 June 2017 to showcase the outstanding STEM projects of the awarded school teams, with the students competing for 20th Anniversary Awards. More details of the celebratory event will be announced in due course.
