Under Secretary for Education’s Dialogue with Prospective Teachers

The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) invited Mr Jeff Sze Chun-fai, Under Secretary for Education, to deliver a talk at the ‘Leader’s Dialogue on New Chapter for Education’ seminar on 10 January 2023. This was followed by a dialogue session with EdUHK students. More than 400 staff members and students attended the event.

In his keynote speech entitled ‘A New Chapter in Hong Kong Education – Teachers’ Professional Development’, Mr Sze spoke about the education policy outlined in The Chief Executive’s 2022 Policy Address, including STEAM education, National Education and National Security Education, and teachers’ professional roles, values and conduct.

During the dialogue session, Mr Sze encouraged students to take a long-term view, be reflective in seeking improvement and uphold teachers’ professional code of conduct. He also advised students to build their confidence, rise to challenges, maintain their enthusiasm for teaching, and pursue continuing professional development.

Dr Sammy Hui King-fai, Associate Vice President (Student Learning) of EdUHK, said, “EdUHK is committed to nurturing outstanding educators. This seminar has offered an opportunity for our students to understand the latest developments in education in Hong Kong, so as to better prepare themselves to become professional teachers.”
