FEHD Meets with Global Scholars at AERA Reception in USA

The Faculty of Education and Human Development (FEHD) hosted a reception at the 2025 Annual Conference of the American Educational Research Association (AERA) in Denver, USA in late April. Under the theme ‘EdUHK: Empowering Education for Asia and Beyond’, the event brought together over 400 attendees to celebrate the faculty’s achievements and foster global connections.

Distinguished academics, researchers and experts from 158 universities and eight organisations across 24 countries participated in the event, which served as a valuable platform for networking, sharing insights and exploring collaborations to advance education worldwide.

Dr Emma Buchtel, Associate Dean (International Engagement) of FEHD, led the faculty organisation committee in extending a warm welcome to attendees, greeting everyone in various languages to create an inclusive and engaging atmosphere. They also shared their experiences of working in Hong Kong, encouraging attendees to learn more about the city’s dynamic cultural and professional landscape.

In his opening remarks, Professor Bruce Macfarlane, Dean of FEHD, emphasised the faculty’s pivotal role in shaping education both locally and globally. He highlighted the University’s recent leap to 12th place globally in the field of education in the QS World University Rankings by Subject, demonstrating FEHD’s significant contributions to educational progress in Hong Kong, Asia and beyond. Professor Macfarlane also stressed the faculty’s commitment to interdisciplinary research and innovative teaching methodologies that drive meaningful change in education.

The reception provided a valuable opportunity for FEHD to strengthen its ties with international scholars and universities. By fostering these connections, FEHD maintains its dedication to advancing research, promoting knowledge transfer and shaping a future defined by innovation and collaboration.
