EdUHK Holds 30th Anniversary Celebratory Lunch

Twenty-fifth April, 1994 marks the date of the amalgamation of the five former colleges of education and the Institute of Language in Education to become The Hong Kong Institute of Education – now The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK).

Today (25 April 2024), EdUHK marks its 30th anniversary. The University held a special luncheon and ceremony with over 1,000 members, including the senior management, faculty members and frontline staff, to enjoy this memorable day together.

In addition to the a cappella performance by the Lacov student choir, pieces of music played by the Western Chamber Music Ensemble and lucky draw, there was the presentation of long service awards to more than 30 faculty and staff members of the University, to express gratitude for their dedication and effort over the years of service.

Addressing the ceremony, President Professor John Lee Chi-Kin said the 30th-anniversary tagline, “Education Talent Virtue” (育才弘教 立德樹人), had been devised to commemorate the occasion. It emphasises the importance of nurturing talent (才) while cultivating virtue (德), which is the core mission of the University. He also shared his heartfelt gratitude for the hard work of EdUHK’s predecessors, playing instrumental roles in shaping EdUHK’s identity and nurturing generations of students.

He said, “Looking ahead, notwithstanding the rapidly evolving landscape of education, I have full confidence that we will continue to overcome the challenges and seize every opportunity to scale new heights with the collective wisdom, experience, and expertise of our colleagues.”
