Professor Hou Wai-kai is an elected Fellow, Chair of the Membership Committee, and Member of the Rising Star Committee of the Association of Psychological Science. He was Visiting Fulbright Scholar at Columbia University in New York and the recipient of the President’s Award for Outstanding Performance in Research at The Education University of Hong Kong.
Professor Hou serves as Associate Editor, Consulting Editor, and Editorial Board Member of international peer-refereed journals. He also serves in local and international review boards and referee panels, including the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications, the Research Grants Council, the University Grants Committee, and the Health and Medical Research Fund in Hong Kong, the National Medical Research Council in Singapore, the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities, the Health Research Board of the Government of Ireland.
Professor Hou’s work encompasses everyday processes and mechanisms of resilience, epidemiology and big data analytics, public mental health, social determinants, and psychometrics and psychological assessment. His ultimate goal is to achieve health equity through contributing scalable interventions and cost-effective policies. He has obtained over HK$90 million of funding from 27 grants, among which he is the principal investigator (PI/Co-PI) of 20 of them including the Collaborative Research Fund, General Research Fund, Public Policy Research Funding Scheme, and projects for university-level strategic development. With an extensive local and international collaborative network, Professor Hou has led and mentored around 100 publications in prestigious international peer-refereed outlets, such as Lancet Psychiatry, npj Digital Medicine, Clinical Psychology Review, BMC Medicine, Australian and New Zealand Journal of Psychiatry, Translational Psychiatry, and Trauma, Violence and Abuse.
