Professor Justin Yifu Lin is a leading economist and influential policy advisor, currently serving as a Standing Committee member of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, Vice Chairman of its Committee on Economic Affairs, and Dean of the Institute of New Structural Economics at Peking University. He is also Honorary Dean of both the National School of Development and the Institute of South-South Cooperation and Development at Peking University.
In 1994, he founded the China Center for Economic Research at Peking University (now the National School of Development at Peking University) and served as its director. In 2008, he was appointed as the chief economist of the World Bank and senior vice president in charge of development economics, becoming the first person from a developing country to hold this important position. In 2012, after his tenure at the World Bank ended, he returned to Peking University and continued his teaching and research work.
Renowned for his prolific scholarship, Professor Lin has published over 300 academic papers and received numerous prestigious awards, including the Sun Yefang Economic Science Award and the Sir John Crawford Award. He has shaped economic planning for China's Greater Bay Area and Hong Kong, and has been honoured as a Fellow of the World Academy of Sciences, Corresponding Fellow of the British Academy, and has received honorary doctorates from more than ten institutions worldwide.
