Humanoid Robot Debuts at EdUHK Roadshow: AI Driving the Future of Education

The Centre for Learning, Teaching and Technology (LTTC) at The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) hosted a two-day roadshow at the STEM Innovation Hub on the Tai Po Campus on 31 August and 1 September, showcasing a humanoid robot alongside a range of cutting-edge educational technology applications. The event attracted over 350 faculty members and students, who experienced firsthand the transformative potential of integrating technology into teaching and learning.  


A highlight of the roadshow was the introduction of LTTC Robotics and Embodied Intelligence (REI) Lab’s Unitree R1 humanoid robot. Standing 123 cm tall and weighing 29 kg, the robot is equipped with a multimodal large language model (LLM) and possesses secondary development potential for educational purposes. Participants tested its mobility, conversation ability, dynamic balance, and custom motion workflows. LTTC also demonstrated interactive robotic arm applications written in Python, which successfully simulated human handwriting through AI-assisted coding and inverse kinematics algorithms.  


In addition to the humanoid robot, the event featured a quadruped robotic dog, immersive learning setups, VR headsets, metaverse experiences, as well as generative artificial intelligence (AI) platforms such as the AI4EDU Innovation Hub and Model-as-a-Service, offering attendees a comprehensive technological experience.  


Prior to the roadshow, LTTC organised a seminar titled “Beyond the Classroom: Empowering the Next Generation with AI and XR", delivered by Mr Manson Chung, Business Development Manager at VOTANIC Limited. The seminar introduced approaches for building AI-driven immersive learning environments without the need of coding.  


Looking ahead, LTTC will launch 42 workshops for students in the first semester of the 2026/27 academic year. Covering diverse areas including learning analytics, video production, educational digital tools, LMS operations, graphic design, 3D printing, educational robotics and immersive VR‑CAVE environments. The workshop will explore topics including AI‑assisted animation and graphic design, AI‑enhanced 3D‑print modelling, robotics‑focused AI‑application building, generative‑AI‑powered metaverse storytelling, AI‑supported data processing, AI‑enabled assessment feedback, AI chatbot development and AI‑agent‑driven webpage creation.
