EdUHK Holds Award Ceremony for the ‘Excellent Supporting Teacher Award’ and the ‘Award for Supporting Teachers’ Excellence in Professional Ethics’

The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) held the award ceremony for the Excellent Supporting Teacher Award and the Award for Supporting Teachers’ Excellence in Professional Ethics on 14 May at its Tai Po campus, recognising outstanding contributions in teaching mentorship and professional ethics.

With the mission of “Education Talent Virtue”, EdUHK is committed to nurturing educators with both professional competence and strong moral character. In her welcoming remarks, EdUHK Vice President (Academic) Professor May Cheng May-hung emphasised that teachers not only impart knowledge but also play a vital role in shaping students’ character and values. She expressed heartfelt gratitude to the principals, Link Teachers and Supporting Teachers of placement schools for their continued support of EdUHK’s field experience programmes, which are crucial to the development of pre-service teachers and promotion of professional ethics in education. She further highlighted that Supporting Teachers, through role modelling and mentorship play a pivotal role in guiding student teachers’ professional growth and character development, fully embodying the spirit of “passing on the torch”.

Launched in the 2014/15 academic year, the Excellent Supporting Teacher Nomination Scheme recognises Supporting Teachers who provide outstanding guidance and support to EdUHK students during their field experience. By sharing valuable teaching insights and exemplifying professional excellence, these teachers pass on knowledge and values across generations, laying a solid foundation for the professional growth of student teachers and truly embodying the spirit “influencing lives with life”. This year, more than 130 Supporting Teachers were honoured.

To further promote professional ethics, EdUHK introduced the Award for Supporting Teachers’ Excellence in Professional Ethics in 2025. The award recognises teachers who uphold high professional standards, demonstrate exemplary character, and are dedicated to nurturing students’ values. This year, 54 teachers were honoured.

The ceremony also included the presentation of the Student Field Experience e-Portfolio Award, which encourages students to use e-portfolios to document their school-based experiences. Through these e-portfolios, students record their learning journeys, reflect on personal growth, showcase achievements, and demonstrate thoughtful engagement on teachers’ professional ethics. This year, 39 students were recognised for their outstanding work.

In addition to the award presentation ceremony, the event also featured a keynote speech and sharing sessions. Mr Albert So, Chairman of the Hong Kong Mediation and Arbitration Centre, delivered a keynote speech on “Legal Responsibilities under the Mandatory Reporting of Child Abuse Ordinance and Practical Case Analysis”, offering insights into teachers’ legal responsibilities and practical applications. This was followed by sharing sessions on professional ethics by Ms Chow Hoi-yan, Principal of Tin Shui Wai Catholic Primary School, and Mr Wing Chung, Panel Head of Tseung Kwan O Government Secondary School, who shared practical experience on upholding professional ethics in education.

Organised by the EdUHK School Partnership and Field Experience Office, the ceremony was attended by Dr Kevin Kam Wai-keung, Director of School Partnership and Field Experience; Ms Mandy Au Yuen-yee, Associate Director; as well as primary and secondary school principals, teachers, EdUHK students and award recipients.

EdUHK will continue to strengthen teacher professionalism, promote professional ethics and values education, and nurture future educators to become outstanding citizens who contribute to society, the nation and the wider world.
