EdUHK Elected to GHMUA Governing Council
STEAM Education Alliance Awarded “Outstanding Sub-Alliance for 2025”
The Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao University Alliance (GHMUA) held its 10th Anniversary Annual Meeting and Presidents’ Forum on 24 July 2026. The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) was elected to the new Governing Council. As a founding member of the GHMUA, EdUHK has actively promoted regional higher education exchange and collaboration since 2016, and will continue contributing to GHMUA development and the integration of higher education in the Greater Bay Area (GBA).
The meeting brought together nearly 200 representatives from universities and government bodies across Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao. Through exhibitions, commemorative video and other activities, participants reviewed the GHMUA’s achievements in advancing education and research collaboration in the GBA, and engaged in in-depth exchanges on regional higher education development, industry-academia integration, and internationalisation.
Officiating guests included Ms Zhang Jin, Deputy Director-General, Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges, Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China; Dr Choi Yuk-lin, Secretary for Education, HKSAR Government; Mr Xu Shimin, Chief Inspector, Department of Education of Guangdong Province; Mr Ding Shaoxiong, Deputy Director, Education and Youth Development Bureau, Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region. Representing EdUHK were Vice President (Academic) Professor May Cheng May-hung, Associate Vice President (Quality Assurance) Professor Susanna Yeung Siu-sze, Associate Registrar Dr Li Wai‑chin, and Assistant Director of the Global Affairs Office Ms Jennifer Ho Ching.
At the meeting, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Alliance for Primary and Secondary STEAM Education (GHMU-APSSE), initiated and led by EdUHK, was presented with the “Outstanding Sub-Alliance for 2025” award. The recognition highlights its contributions to educational collaboration, talent development, resource sharing and innovation, as well as its exemplary role in fostering regional cooperation.
Jointly established by EdUHK, South China Normal University and the University of Macau, the GHMU-APSSE brings together STEAM education experts from the three regions. Since its inception, it has organised academic forums, teacher professional development programmes, student innovation projects, and promoted resource sharing and cross regional collaboration. These initiatives have advanced both theoretical research and practical innovation in STEAM education, strengthened interdisciplinary teaching skills, and nurtured innovative talents for the GBA.
Professor May Cheng, Chairperson of the GHMU-APSSE, remarked: “This honour recognises the collective efforts of our member institutions and gives fresh impetus to deepening collaboration. Looking ahead, our alliance will continue to serve as a platform to strengthen educational cooperation across Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, and to advance the high‑quality development of STEAM education. EdUHK will also actively fulfil its responsibilities as a council member, contributing to the GHMUA’s growth and to higher education collaboration in the GBA.”
Beyond the GHMU-APSSE, EdUHK has also spearheaded the Creative Arts Alliance, Chinese Language Education Alliance and Teacher Education Alliance, which have advanced cross‑regional collaboration in areas such as integrating artificial intelligence into arts education, advancing Chinese language scholarship, and fostering collaboration in teacher training. At the Presidents’ Forum, Professor Susanna Yeung delivered a keynote presentation titled “Building an Integrated Ecosystem for Collaborative Talent Development”, highlighting EdUHK’s partnerships with universities, enterprises, communities and government organisations to provide students with enriched learning and experiential opportunities.
