EdUHK and China University of Political Science and Law Sign Cooperation Agreements Advancing Interdisciplinary Academic Partnership and Student Exchange
The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) and the China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) signed an Agreement for Academic Collaboration and an Agreement on Student Exchange on 27 October, establishing a framework for long-term collaboration in education, law, public policy, governance and related social sciences.
The signing ceremony was held during the Global University Presidents and Leaders Summit 2026 in Hong Kong. It was the first academic cooperation agreement signed during the summit. Professor the Hon Priscilla Leung Mei-Fun, Legislative Councillor and Founding Chairperson & Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Association for External Exchanges and Friendship, attended as witness to the signing. Professor John Lee Chi-Kin, President of EdUHK, and Professor Lu Chunlong, President of CUPL, signed the agreements on behalf of their respective institutions. Professor Priscilla Leung congratulated the two universities for being the first institutional pair to enter into a cooperation agreement via the Summit platform, and expressed her anticipation for more joint initiatives between the two institutions in future.
Under the partnership, the two universities will pursue joint research and academic projects, co-organise conferences and forums, deliver short-term training programmes, promote student exchange initiatives, and share academic publications. Priority areas of collaboration include education policy and governance, educational leadership, law and education, higher education regulation, ethics and related social science themes.
Professor John Lee Chi-Kin remarked that EdUHK’s strengths in education, educational leadership and policy research, combined with CUPL’s expertise in law, political science and public governance, provide a solid foundation for meaningful interdisciplinary collaboration. He expressed confidence that the partnership will foster sustained academic exchanges, support student development, and contribute to education and society in Hong Kong, China and worldwide.
Professor Lu Chunlong noted in his remarks that amid profound and complex shifts in the international landscape, as well as transformations in educational modalities, legal practice and social governance brought about by artificial intelligence and digital technologies, universities should strengthen cross-border, interdisciplinary and cross-domain collaboration. He hoped the two universities would establish a regular communication mechanism, promote faculty visits and student exchanges, and jointly carry out research and project cooperation, so as to contribute to the integrated development of the Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong and Macao, support the country’s high-level opening-up, and address global challenges.
This collaboration further expands EdUHK’s network of partner institutions in the Chinese Mainland, creating new opportunities for academics, staff and students of both universities to exchange knowledge and engage in impactful interdisciplinary research.
