Abstract
Nowadays, the widespread use of antibiotics for the medical treatment to protect human and animals from microbial infections has contributed to the emergence and spread of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) among various bacteria. Antibiotic resistant bacteria (ARB) are recognized as one group of the contaminants among all kinds of bacteria which result in a strongly negative impact to human health and to natural environment globally. ARB and ARGs have been found in the different environment like river water, ground water, soil, sediment and wastewater treat plant (WWTP). Generally, the total ARGs abundances in different environments increased with the impacts of anthropogenic activities. Most people, including children, spend as much as 90% of their time indoors. The bacteria in indoor have been confirmed to have the direct relationship with human health. The excess of human activities will result in the higher concentration of bacteria in indoor. At present, there are few studies have been done on investigate indoor ARB distribution, especially in kindergartens and primary schools. In present study, metagenomics sequencing method would be applied to fully realize the occurrence of the biological pollution in the indoor air of kindergartens and primary schools.

About the Speaker
CHAI Yemao is a second-year PhD student in the Department of Science and Environment Studies of The Education University of Hong Kong. She is pursuing her PhD degree under the supervision of Dr. Deng Wenjing. Her research focuses on airborne antibiotic resistant bacteria and antibiotic resistance genes using metagenoimic sequencing method. She is a big fan of sports. She also likes travelling and music.
