Research Seminar: Environmental Forensics: What is it and what can it do? | Prof John P. Giesy

You are cordially invited to attend the Research Seminar by Prof John P. Giesy organized by the Department of Science and Environmental Studies (SES). 

Prof. John P. Giesy is an American-Canadian ecotoxicologist renowned for his groundbreaking work in environmental toxicology. He is a Distinguished Professor Emeritus and former Canada Research Chair in Environmental Toxicology at the University of Saskatchewan and Michigan State University. Prof. Giesy was the first scientist to discover toxic per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in the environment. His extensive research also includes photo-enhanced toxicity, endocrine-disrupting compounds, and more recently, the fate and transmission of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, particularly regarding its persistence in wastewater and the environment. With over 1,300 publications and an h-index of 151, he is among the world's most cited authors in ecology and environmental sciences. Elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada in 2010, he has received numerous awards, including the Einstein Professorship Award by Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Miroslaw Romanowski Medal by Royal Society of Canada.
