Research Seminar: Synergistic Effects of Pollution Reduction and Carbon Mitigation through Solid Waste Resource Utilization in the Context of "Zero-Waste City" Development | Prof. XU He

You are cordially invited to participate in the Research Seminar by the Department of Science and Environmental Studies (SES). 

The development of "Zero-Waste Cities" serves as a pivotal strategy for the prevention and control of solid waste pollution, aligning with the broader goals of advancing pollution prevention and achieving carbon peaking and neutrality. Investigating the synergistic effects of pollution reduction and carbon mitigation within the framework of "Zero-Waste City" initiatives, as well as their underlying mechanisms, holds significant theoretical and practical value for China's comprehensive carbon emission reduction efforts. While existing research on pollution reduction and carbon mitigation synergy has primarily focused on atmospheric pollution, solid waste has yet to be systematically integrated into such assessments. In this talk, Prof Xu will address the resource utilization of solid waste in the context of "Zero-Waste City" development, proposing a quantitative analytical framework to evaluate the co-benefits of pollution reduction and carbon mitigation. Through case studies, a comprehensive assessment of synergistic effects will be presented, offering insights into optimizing environmental and climate benefits in urban solid waste management systems.
