Abstract
Nowadays, more and more Chinese students pursue higher education abroad. In order to satisfy their interests, a large number of middle schools open international programs (IB curriculum, A Level and AP courses) in the Mainland China. These programs adopt English as the medium of instruction (EMI). Here comes a problem that both Chinese teachers and students have challenges and difficulties while teaching and learning science in the English medium. This presentation will briefly introduce the background in China and problems other countries or areas have. Based on this whole context, I will further present some parts of my dissertation proposal which aims to explore the challenges and problems Chinese science teachers are facing with while using EMI in high schools.
