CRCLE: Building an Academic Growth Platform for Doctoral Students

The Centre for Research on Chinese Language and Education (CRCLE) is committed to fostering a high-quality academic platform for doctoral students, organising regular sharing sessions with supervisors and scholars for dialogue and in-depth guidance. Recently, Ms Wei Bing, an exchange PhD candidate from Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, visited CRCLE for a three-month research stay from March to June 2026. In May, she presented ‘Chinese Learners’ Dictionary Use and Culture‑loaded Word Needs: A Cross‑Contextual Comparison’ at a PhD group meeting, with CRCLE member Dr Yan Jing as discussant. Several doctoral students attended and engaged in lively discussion.

The PhD group meetings follow a ‘presentation + Q&A’ format and are moderated by Dr Ding Hongdi, Associate Director of CRCLE. Over the past two years, nine sessions have been held, featuring Faculty staff, doctoral students, and scholars from local and international institutions. The topics centre on linguistic research and Chinese education.

In addition, CRCLE arranges academic consultations with visiting scholars and encourages doctoral students to participate in faculty‑supervised research projects. The academic platform CRCLE has built continues to serve as an important forum for sharing insights, receiving feedback, and fostering collaboration among doctoral students.
