FEHD launches cutting edge e-Learning Pedagogy Space

2023-05-19

FEHD launched its new, state-of-the-art learning and teaching lab this week. Named the ePS, the lab is a future learning space where staff can develop, experiment, practice, and promote e-pedagogies. Boasting a tracking camera, pan-tilt zoom camera, interactive screens and virtual reality, the new space addresses the growing need for online and hybrid learning in the post-pandemic environment.

“ePS is just one of the key milestones of our e-pedagogy project,” said Prof Tsui Kwok Tung, Principal Project Leader, in his opening remarks. “Through this endeavour, our project offers professional development opportunities and disseminates good practices and resources of e-pedagogies to our Faculty and staff. Our mission is to empower educators to use technology in enhancing student learning outcomes and craft dynamic immersive learning experiences.”

At the launch, Dr Lu Jiafang, Acting Head of EPL, shared her good practices of using Metaverse at the ePS for the IELC programme. Two students, Mr Johnson Chung, an in-service teacher studying MA(LELA) and Mr Lobo Cheung, an EdD student in Health and Physical Education, shared their learning experiences in both face-to-face and hybrid settings at the ePS.

The project also seeks to help EdUHK students master interactive e-pedagogies. Mr Garret Lai, from the C&I, demonstrated hands-on activities of e-pedagogies, including Metaverse, virtual reality and augmented reality.

Prof John Lee, the Vice President (Academic) and Provost, Ms Sarah Wong, the Vice President (Administration) and Secretary to Council, Prof May Cheng, the Associate Vice President (Academic Affairs) and Registrar, Prof Li Wai Keung, the Dean of LASS, Dr Fok Ping Kwan, Head of C&I Department and Dr Darren Bryant, co-PI of the project also attended the launch event.
