FEHD and the Faculty of Education of East China Normal University (ECNU) co-organised the Second Asian Education Doctoral Student Institute (AEDSI), which took place from 30 October to 1 November 2023 at the ECNU Campus in Shanghai.
The hybrid event, titled Identity, Impact, and Innovation During the Doctoral Journey, brought together over 340 doctoral students from 96 universities and 18 countries, who attended both on-site and online.
Nine academics from various universities shared their insights on the motivation and sustainability of the doctoral journey, the establishment of career goals, and the significance of research vision.
Professor Bruce Macfarlane, Dean of FEHD, led a team of four academics from C&I and EPL to attend the event. He expressed his appreciation to the Faculty of Education of ECNU for hosting and supporting the on-site portion of the event. He said, “After successfully hosting the 1st AEDSI online during the pandemic last year, it is wonderful to now see the 2nd AEDSI being conducted in a hybrid format. This shows the readiness and capability of both faculties to organize regional and international activities.”
Professor Chen Shuangye, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Education at ECNU, expressed her enthusiasm for future collaborations. She said, “The AEDSI serves as a valuable platform for students to learn from the guidance and experiences of academics and peers, while also helping to build networks and communities. The participating students have greatly benefitted from this opportunity.”
FEHD is committed to organizing additional activities in collaboration with partner universities to provide continuous support to doctoral students in Hong Kong, mainland China, and the broader Asian region.
