Accompanied by Course Instructor Mr Justin Tse, students from the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Executive Management [BSc(EM)] participated in a series of experiential learning activities organised by the Humanitarian Education Centre of the Hong Kong Red Cross as part of the course "21st Century Skills and Values Education." Building on the Programme's commitment to experiential learning and values education, the visit provided students with a valuable opportunity to explore contemporary humanitarian issues through immersive and interactive learning experiences.

During the visit, students took part in two signature activities: Role-Play Activity: Countdown20 and Choice-driven Theatre: "Warzone24". Through these specially designed programmes, students were encouraged to examine global challenges from multiple perspectives while reflecting on the importance of empathy, responsibility and ethical decision-making.

In Countdown20, students were placed in the role of residents of a Pacific island facing the threat of disappearance due to climate change. Through role-play and discussion, participants experienced the difficult choices faced by affected communities and gained a deeper understanding of the humanitarian consequences of climate change. The activity also introduced the humanitarian actions undertaken by the Red Cross in responding to climate-related crises around the world. Students also joined Warzone24, an immersive choice-driven theatre experience inspired by real events. The activity brought participants into a simulated conflict setting where they assumed the role of civilians navigating complex and challenging situations. By making a series of decisions that influenced the storyline, students explored the impact of armed conflict on individuals and communities while reflecting on core values, communication, teamwork and value-based decision-making.

The activities provided students with a unique form of Humanitarian Education, enabling them to examine pressing global issues beyond the classroom. Through immersive storytelling, role-play and critical reflection, students developed greater awareness of humanitarian principles, social responsibility and the importance of making informed and ethical decisions in times of uncertainty. This learning experience reflects the BSc(EM) Programme's ongoing commitment to providing meaningful experiential learning opportunities that connect academic learning with real-world challenges, empowering students to become socially responsible and globally minded future leaders.
