Young people around the world will graduate into a very different future where the demands for creativity, responsible decision-making, life-long learning and interdisciplinary collaboration can be far beyond our current imagination. To prepare our next generation for the new age, educational leaders must envisage schools-in-the-making or future schools through proactive policy and practice.
The EdD specialisation in Leadership for Future Schools enables students to comprehend, critique and apply theories and research findings with update-to-date literature to inform the improvement of policy and practice. These skills and capacities are expected to assist prospective and current leaders in building sustainable leadership that could maximise education potential for the next generation in the rapidly changing context. We recognise leading future schools are full of uncertainties and entail challenges for leadership at the individual, organisational and system levels. This specialisation bridges the divide between theory and practice and is designed for students working in a broad range of education- and policy-related settings, e.g. kindergartens, schools, government agencies, higher education institutions, professional associations and consulting organisations.
The specialisation draws on the expertise of EPL in education policy, educational leadership, as well as teacher and school development. Courses are offered in all of these three domains. EdD students have the autonomy to select, in consultation with their supervisors, relevant courses to explore their identified research area. This specialisation provides an academically rigorous approach that equips students with analytical skills, in-depth theoretical understanding and research tools to make a positive impact in policy and practice.
Upon completion of the EdD program, students should be able to:
Students are expected to acquire a personal theoretical perspective, master critical analytical skills and adopt empirical research skills to contribute to new knowledge building and practice improvement in leadership and policy:
