Prof Susanna Yeung Siu-Sze, Associate Vice President (Quality Assurance) and Professor of the Department of Psychology, received the President’s Award (Certificate of Merit) for her achievements in commercialising research outputs. The award honors individuals or teams who effectively apply University expertise to achieve meaningful social, economic, or policy improvements at local, national, or international levels.
Professor Susanna Yeung has achieved outstanding knowledge transfer via patented, award-winning AI-powered educational tools and social robots that translate language learning research into commercial, scalable solutions. Her morphology training platform and Literacy Play Kit have reached thousands of students and families, and her internationally awarded humanoid social robot “Joey” enhances students’ motivation and oral competence. These efforts have produced measurable, long-term gains and improved language learning outcomes across Hong Kong.
Dr Michael Yeung Kin-Chung, Associate Professor from the Department of Psychology received the President’s Award (Outstanding Early Career Research Award) for his achievements in research. The award acknowledges individual academic staff or teams for internationally leading research that creates a significant impact within their discipline, advances the scientific community, and benefits society.
Dr Michael Yeung has secured external funding totalling HK$2.9 million over the past three years, and has published extensively in international Q1 journals. His multimodal neurofeedback application for autism brain training earned five gold medals and three special awards at international invention exhibitions, and he contributes to research governance and scholarship through leadership roles including Chair of the Departmental Ethics Committee and co-opted membership of the Human Research Ethics Committee, as well as service as Associate Editor/Reviewer Editor for Frontiers journals. Besides, he also strengthens local healthcare education through parent talks on executive control to support family wellbeing. His invited seminars and talks in the Chinese Mainland reflect his regional and international impact and the global recognition of his research.
