Chinese Language

Aims & Outcomes	Students who take Chinese Language as Second Major will be able to: demonstrate a sound understanding of the Chinese Language; and advance their knowledge in the disciplines of linguistics, literature and culture.
Offering Programme	BEd(CL)
Pre-requisite Requirements and Other Conditions for Declaring a Second Major	Level 3 or above in Chinese Language in HKDSE, or equivalent; Year 1 GPA: 3.00 or above; and Applicants may be invited for an interview.
Selection Criteria	Applications will be endorsed by Programme Leader of BEd(CL) followed by approval of Associate Dean (Undergraduate Studies).
No. of cps Required	36 cps (3 cps/course), including: 24 cps of Core Courses; and 12 cps of Elective Courses
Remarks	All Second Majors will not lead to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). Neither teaching practice nor immersion will be arranged.
Important Notes	The Second Major is housed within and managed by BEd(CL) under the current management structure. You are required to declare the Second Major in the final semester of your studies by submitting the declaration form on-line via The Portal (under ‘Second Major’ on the left panel of The Portal homepage) to the Registry for approval. Any aspect of the course and course offerings (including, without limitation, the content of the Course and the manner in which the Course is taught) may be subject to change at any time at the sole discretion of the University. Without limiting the right of the University to amend the course and its course offerings, it is envisaged that changes may be required due to factors such as staffing, enrolment levels, logistical arrangements and curriculum changes.

Important Notes

One-off Special Arrangements for Second Major Students in 2021 cohort:

In October 2024, the Programme Coordinator has granted an one-off special approval for the Second Major students in 2021 cohort for fulfilling the Second Major requirements by following either the previous or the new Second Major course list.

Students in 2021 cohort	Recommendations
Students who have not completed/registered both CUS1001 and CUS1002 by Semester 1, 2024/25.	Students are allowed to study CUS1002 in Sem 2 in 2024/25.
Students who have completed/registered both CUS1001 and CUS1002 by Semester 1, 2024/25.	CUS1002 and CUS1001 will be counted as the Second Major’s core and elective respectively.
