Professor
Department of Literature and Cultural Studies (LCS)
Research Area(s):
- Early Chinese Texts
- Traditional Chinese Culture
- Classical Chinese Literature
- Literary Criticism
My primary research area centres on the ‘two ends’ of Chinese intellectual history, investigating the classical traditions of the pre-Qin and Han dynasties, as well as their paradigm shifts into modern scholarship. I have specifically delved into the literary studies of scholars such as Wang Zhong, Jiao Xun, and Ruan Yuan, as well as Cai Yuanpei, Hu Shi, and Chen Yinke. My current research revolves around the Analects and the Lüshi Chunqiu, which are widely acknowledged as pivotal works representing the commencement and summation of pre-Qin philosophical thought.
My research blends the strengths of both Eastern and Western scholarly approaches. In addition to traditional Chinese philology and close reading, I leverage contemporary methods and tools from analytical philosophy, hermeneutics, and artificial intelligence to explore the profound meanings of ancient Chinese texts from both qualitative and quantitative perspectives.
