On the afternoon of 8 February 2025, Dr Chau Man-lut shared insights into drawing writing inspiration from field observations to create nature writing. This is one of the nature writing activities supported by FHM. Two guides from the Fung Yuen Butterfly Reserve explained butterfly characteristics and identification techniques, guiding participants to observe these beautiful creatures in their natural habitats. All participants enjoyed the vibrant atmosphere created by the butterflies in the conservation area.
The participants of this event come from The Education University of Hong Kong and other local universities. The session began with Dr Chau, the project leader and instructor, explaining the concept of nature writing, followed by two professional guides from Fung Yuen introducing the physiological structure and ecology of butterflies.
The lecture lasted about an hour and a half, after which the guides led a tour of the reserve for butterfly observation. Although weather conditions were not ideal for butterfly watching that day, students were enthusiastically engaged by asking questions about butterfly identification. They returned to the classroom, where Dr Chau provided a summary of the session, bringing the event to a satisfying conclusion.
